How to Activate Your Consent Banner

Follow the steps below to get your consent banner live on your Shopify store. The process differs slightly depending on whether you are creating a new Cookiebot account or linking an existing one.

Path A — New account (created through Shopify)

1. Install the Cookiebot CMP: Privacy Consent app from the Shopify App Store.
2. Open the app in your Shopify admin and complete the setup — create your account and configure your banner.
3. Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.
4. Open App Embeds and turn on the Cookiebot CMP toggle.
5. Click Save.

Your consent banner is now live on your store.

Path B — Linking an existing Cookiebot account

Before you start, find your Domain Group ID in your Cookiebot.com admin under Implementation > CMP Banner — scroll down to "Installation guides".

1. Install the Cookiebot CMP: Privacy Consent app from the Shopify App Store.
2. Open the app in your Shopify admin. The setup screen shows "Activate your Cookiebot banner on Shopify".
3. Under Step 1 — Connect your Cookiebot.com account, paste your Domain Group ID into the field and click Connect.
4. Click Open Theme Editor (Step 2) or go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.
5. In the App Embeds section, turn on the Cookiebot CMP toggle.
6. Click Save.

Your existing banner is now active on your Shopify store. Continue making changes at cookiebot.com.

Check that the banner is working

Open your store in a private (incognito) browser window. The consent banner should appear on the first visit.
