If your consent banner is not appearing on your store, work through the checklist below to identify and resolve the issue.
Quick checklist
- The app embed is toggled ON in your active Shopify theme (theme editor > App embeds > Cookiebot CMP).
- You clicked Save in the theme editor after enabling the app embed.
- The Banner Status toggle inside the Cookiebot app dashboard is ON.
- You have waited 15–30 minutes after saving changes for them to propagate.
- You have cleared your browser cache or tested in an incognito/private window.
- You are checking the correct domain — the banner only shows on the domain associated with your app setup.
The banner shows old settings / the wrong colors
After making changes in the app, it can take up to 30 minutes for updates to appear on your store. If you see an outdated version of the banner:
- Confirm you clicked Save in the app after making changes.
- Hard-refresh your browser (
Ctrl+Shift+RorCmd+Shift+R). - Test in an incognito window to rule out cached content.
The banner appears but the customisation is not reflected
If the colors or text you set in the app are not showing on the live banner, this may be caused by browser or CDN caching. Wait up to 30 minutes and test in a fresh incognito session. If the issue persists after 30 minutes, contact support and include your store URL and a screenshot of your app settings.
Recently switched themes
The Cookiebot app embed is stored per theme, not globally. If you recently changed or published a new theme, you need to re-enable the app embed in the new theme.
Conflict with another consent tool
If another consent management tool or cookie banner is installed on your store (such as Shopify's native cookie banner, another CMP app, or a GTM tag that loads a consent tool), this can conflict with the Cookiebot app. Only one CMP should be active at a time. Remove or disable any other consent tools before troubleshooting further.
The banner shows but the scan only finds one service
After installing the app, an initial compliance scan is run. In some cases, the scanner may initially only detect the Cookiebot service itself. Click Scan Again in the app dashboard to run a fresh scan. If services are still not detected after rescanning, contact our support team.
