Cookiebot Shopify: Script blocking delays regchecker API vehicle lookup

Hello Cookiebot Community and Shopify Developers,

We are currently integrating a custom UK vehicle verification widget on a Shopify store using Cookiebot for GDPR consent and cookie categorisation.

When a store visitor enters a UK registration number on the product page, a background JavaScript fetch sends an outbound HTTP GET request to an external UK vehicle verification service (Reg Checker - regchecker.co.uk) to load MOT status, vehicle dimensions, and fitment compatibility.

System Architecture and Integration Setup:

• Data Endpoint: regchecker.co.uk
• Mechanism: Shopify Storefront JS -> Cookiebot Script Auto-Blocker -> (regchecker.co.uk/?vrn=)... -> Parse JSON -> Display Vehicle Compatibility.
• Software Environment: Shopify Online Store 2.0 / Cookiebot Premium App.

Technical Issue and Query:

1. Script Blocking Delay: Before a user accepts the cookie banner, Cookiebot automatically marks the outgoing regchecker.co.uk API fetch as a tracking script and blocks execution, causing the vehicle lookup form to hang.
2. Consent State Execution Lag: Even after accepting strictly necessary cookies, re-triggering the external REST API call takes over 3500ms due to banner state reload latency.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

• Confirmed that backend query speeds directly on regchecker.co.uk execute under 200ms when tested independently outside the Cookiebot script wrapper.
• Added data-cookieconsent="ignore" to the API loader script, which unblocks execution but bypasses Cookiebot categorization rules.

Has anyone experienced API script blocking or execution delays when connecting external REST endpoints to Shopify stores running Cookiebot? Any recommended script attributes for functional external APIs?
